Mariachi

My Mum and two of her dearest friends arrived in Malaga today. Although they knew I would be working during the day, my Mum said she couldn't imagine me being in Europe on my birthday (27 April) and not coming down to spend it with me.

The daughter of one of her friends, who is one of my best girls, came down as well as a surprise. She arrived into the hotel foyer where I was working and just walked up to me.

I never get surprised! It turns out my default reaction is to bang the table really loud and curse at the top of my voice. It caused quite a stir!

I worked all day, finalising a statement which was released following the conference, and then we went out for a lovely meal, where we were serenaded by a mariachi player. Of course, we had to sing along!
