Hard water on the canal!

We waited until the middle of the day before taking Chloe out. However, despite the sunshine, it was still absolutely Baltic! The canal was several inches thick with ice and the poor old swans were having to walk. I don’t think they can take off easily from a solid surface. 
Our heating is on again (!) tonight but the house doesn’t feel that warm.
Maybe I need to migrate to warmer climes!
