Santa Lucia
My mum wanted to decorate another little tree, but she bought the wrong lights. So she decorated me. We think it looks rather nice and it reminds us to a safe version (without candles) of Santa Lucia.
We found those interesting information:
"On the night of December 12th to 13th comes Santa Lucia, the messenger of light. She puts sweets and small gifts on the windowsill or in the children's shoes for the children.
Saint Lucia lived in Sicily more than 1600 years ago. At night she crept to the poor and provided them with food. To light her way and to have both hands free to carry, she put a wreath of lights on her head.
It used to be the custom at Christmas in Italy to leave a cup of milk and dry bread outside the door for the donkey of the "Queen of Lights" on the eve of December 13th.
Saint Lucy bequeathed all her wealth to the poor. Torrone dei poveri, a meal for the poor, is still prepared on this day. It consists of chickpeas that are boiled with sugar until a solid mass is formed." (*italien.de)
