On every level

At the start of our mad six-week thrash to death-or-glory, the rules were spelled out very simply in black-and-white: Overtime is paid only for hours worked before 6am, after 6pm, or at weekends.
Overtime is paid at its lowest rate for the first six hours (per week), its middle rate for the next six hours, any moment in excess of twelve hours and all of them are paid at the top rate. All disciplines, all staff, the same rates.
Obviously I'm never going to work before 6am nor after 6pm, so my best option was to put in at least 12 hours each weekend I could, and I was paid silly amounts for that.
Today, those of us who were involved were given “Thank-You” gifts.
Female staff each received a scented candle and male staff each received a crate of beer – Yes, you read that correctly.
Married staff also received a gift for their long-suffering spouse – male husbands of female staff each received a crate of beer and female wives of male staff each received a scented candle – Yes, you read that correctly.
Parents who had worked overtime received a “get-over-it” box of chocolates for each child who had suffered parental absence.
