micro:bits can very easily be programmed to display the CPU temperature reading, which can be close enough to ambient if not held tight in the hand. The lowest we managed to get to this morning, outside at around 10am,  was minus six degrees celsius/centigrade. Standing in the sunshine very quickly added a few degrees to the readings but after ten minutes outside nobody was reading far above zero.
