Turtle rescue

This Midland Painted Turtle avoided becoming road pizza today when we pulled over and Linda got out to help it across the road to the wetland stream on the other side. It was trying to cross a fairly-busy road near Musselman's Lake where we were headed for a plant sale. The turtle was in good shape. Lucky little reptile!

Apparently, they stop breathing for the winter and start up again in the spring!
