Found this cute little Charlie Brown Christmas tree tucked in from the wind on a sidewalk in Hallowell • #12 is a children’s classic, Frosty The Snowman, by Steve Nelson and Walter E. Rollins, 1950 • Per Nelson, Frosty’s hometown is modeled after historic Armonk, NY, a place he visited often living in nearby White Plains. The traffic cop is based on the former Police Chief, John Hergenhan. Armonk still holds an annual Frosty Day celebration • Although it’s considered a Christmas song it makes no mention of the holiday. In the original 1969 animated TV special the lyric “I’ll be back again someday” was changed to “I’ll be back on Christmas Day” • The song was first recorded by Gene Autry in 1950 after looking for a successful follow up to his Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer single the previous year • Other notable covers include Jimmy Durante, Nat King Cole, Guy Lombardo, Perry Como and The Ronettes • Water E. Rollins also wrote Here Comes Peter Cottontail • Peace & Love!
