Feeding Frenzy

The birds drained out the feeder today ahead of the storm.
I just saw on the news that a tornado from this storm hit downtown New Orleans. 
I used my big zoom to take this photo. The lens has been such a disappointment. Today I tried manual focus. The result was better, but still not crisp. I wonder if it is an operator error, or if I expect too much of the lens.
