Semi Final Fever

Portrait of a southern French town on the night France played Morocco.

If this had been a major rugby match all the bars would be open and the big screens trundled onto the terrasses, but this is football in deep Terre d'Ovalie.

Muted sounds were coming from Atmos though and the bar was full.  I squeezed myself onto a banquette and watched the first half, mulling over why I liked the aesthetics of the Moroccan kit and realising it's because the players look like Christmas decorations which then made me have a beautiful but flawed business plan of creating little salt dough reproductions of each team member with their names on their backs which would sell like hotcakes in the casbahs of Casablanca and Rabat if they weren't Muslim cities with no need for Christmas decorations.
