Living Gold

We are nearing the end of our enforced spell indoors. Warmer, wetter weather is coming, but not before we reach temperatures of -11° tonight, if the Met Office forecast is correct. The BBC are only expecting lows of -4°, so I hope they are nearer the mark.

As a precautionary measure, I went out late this afternoon and gave the external condensate pipe another blast from my hairdryer, even though the heating is currently working fine, just to try and melt any ice that may have started to form inside and hopefully prevent the heating from cutting out again.

Most condensate pipes discharge the water via an internal drain but that’s not possible for us, as the boiler is down in the cellar where there are no other drains. I’ve done my homework and now know what we need to do in future to stop this recurring.

On a brighter note, the golden hour this morning was glorious, and I couldn’t resist this shot of our oak tree’s mighty trunk.

Live thy Life,
Young and old,
Like yon oak,
Bright in spring,
Living gold;

Summer-rich
Then; and then
Autumn-changed
Soberer-hued
Gold again.

All his leaves
Fall’n at length,
Look, he stands,
Trunk and bough
Naked strength.

Alfred, Lord Tennyson
