Still bitterly cold
After another fun painting session today, we shared a frozen pizza for lunch then I headed off to buy a few essentials before the schools came out. That way trying to avoid coughing children and buses on the roads. I made and error of judgement and headed to the local farm to buy their milk and eggs.. thinking the road would be easily passable by now I turned down the track.. it is very steep but even driving in first gear and going extremely slowly I set off when quite suddenly the car lost traction and started to hurtle down the road... it was utterly terrifying. it gathered momentum and there was no way I could stop it.. I managed to ease is slightly to the grassy verge and then thankfully a tree had caused the road to have thinner coverage of ice or snow packed on to it and the car gained a tiny bit of grip and I was able to stop the death slide.... phew. I was still only half way down the hill but I also remembered I have a button that locks the wheels together so that I had better traction. Gently I set off again in first gear (as before ) which didn't let the car go too fast. I was so grateful to arrive at the bottom without any further incident and still had a mile of road to drive along after the farm shop. I took it extremely slowly and was thankful I didn't meet any other cars coming towards me. Not doing that again!!! I felt rather shaken but hugely relieved not to crash the car just days before handing it over and collecting my new one!!
Trying to sort a few Christmas bits online but increasingly thinking that Christmas might be rather spartan with most things unable to arrive in time.. shame really. I am sure the smaller companies are missing out on a lot of income due to the striking post office workers.. not what anyone needs or wants after the past couple of years.
My husband has such a tickly cough.. and mild cold. I seem to have a bit of a cough too but don't feel unwell.. just going to keep warm this weekend and perhaps get some decorations up.
