Water Rail

I was delighted to spend a few minutes watching this shy bird walking around on the frozen surface of the small lake at Daughter #2's campus
It's only the second water rail I have ever seen, and it treated my to some very good views. ( If only I'd had the DSLR and telephoto with me! ) 
She is back home now, for the Christmas holiday.
