My Walk Home
Went around to see Davie and walked home around the bay. He’s struggling at the moment and has a very bad rattle in his chest. He indicated it has abated compared to what it was. We spoke about the Wick Jazz scene (!) No Blip pic was really fit today to match the words we exchanged. He indicated he’s determined to make it to April 23rd, three years since he was diagnosed. He knows he’s in the last chance saloon; there’s one chemo treatment now available to him. It has to be administered in Aberdeen and his team think he will not be fit for the journey. We listened to Oregon and Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. It’s the first time he’s ever spoken in detail about his prognosis. He was totally non self-pitying, however we shared some lachrymose moments. Because he is paralysed from the chest down he said he really appreciates seeing the sparrows on the bush outside his window; he really savours his daily sandwich far more. He is a well of understanding, patience and stoicism. His hope is far from shattered.
Once again, I walked around the Bay truly humbled.
