Day 16 in the hospital
We slept well, although I was woken once or twice by cramp in my feet - probably a result of the walk last night after two weeks of no exercise at all.
We had a lazy morning, then MrMacD set off for the Maritime Museum for a special trip on the Nautilus, which has a crew of two and can take up to six passengers. They took a family of three from Hawaii out on the harbour for afternoon tea. It was a lovely sunny day for it. Meanwhile, I went to the hospital to relieve my sister. We had a handover of what had happened during the night and this morning, and discussed how we would organise being with Mum over the weekend.
MrMacD returned from his sail, we had a chat and caught up on some emails before he went to the hospital café to get something for our supper. We had a vegetable tagline with rice, then watched the Celebrity Great Kiwi Bake Off on “catch up”. It was a little light relief in what, for me, has been a very emotional afternoon and evening.
My uncle came in to visit his big sister. It must be as difficult for him as it is for us and it was very touching to watch him looking at Mum and talking to her, even though she wasn’t aware of him being there.
Whilst the nurses were repositioning Mum and checking her over I went looking for a blip and found another piece of art. Unfortunately I can’t seem to take any photos in the hospital without ceiling lights being reflected in the glass, and this is no exception. The piece is titled “Vai Ola - 2004” and is by Fatu Feu’u. It was presented to the Auckland District Health Board by AuckPac on behalf of Pacific People in July 2004. This is a link to the artist and his work - https://art-newzealand.com/111-fatu/.
