Winter Solstice
Today is the first day of winter here. This year the exact time of the winter solstice falls on December 21, 2022 at 4:48pm EST (21:48 UTC). For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, it will be the longest night of the year.
Winter will waste no time getting started. A huge storm is approaching the Great Lakes area, and the forecast is using words like blizzard to describe it. I am certain we will have a white Christmas. How white is still anybody’s guess, but the latest prediction is 6 to 10 inches (15 to 25 cm) of snow with 50mph (80kph) winds here.
