Jaca Fruit at the Market

Part of the joy of being back in Rio de Janeiro, post the worst of the pandemic, is simply to appreciate being back.  Just taking it all in, not expecting anything or criticising anything, just being in this wonderfully different, vibrant place when there was, at least, a question, pre-vaccines, if we may ever be here again.

I had a huge feeling of being completely at home in our apartment yesterday, lounging on the sofa felt as at home as I’ve ever felt. And, today, I was hunter-gatherer around the block securing many essentials/desirables from places in which I knew exactly where to look . . . a refill for our plumbed-in water filter,  a mosquito racket, sports shorts and socks, lights to surround our Christmas tree, a local SIM card to help us keep in contact by whats app when out separately on the street, an appointment for an eye test for Dd plus more coffee, milk, serviettes, and cornflakes to name but a few.  All in pouring rain which is due to last at least one more week. Maybe that’s what makes this Scotsman feel so much at home!
