Watching over the city centre

St. Peter's Collegiate Church in Wolverhampton centre. On turning a corner and seeing it, its visual impact is more like a cathedral. An interesting conundrum, especially considering that Wolverhampton feels more like a large town than a city, i.m.h.o.!

Described as one of the great parish churches of the Midlands, St Peter's was – apparently – a chapel royal for centuries. From 1480 until 1846, it was a royal peculiar (or peculier, no spelling mistake), independent of the Diocese of Lichfield and even the Province of Canterbury. See more here.
