Tree dressing

Son, trying out my new camera, took this photo of Faridat putting the finishing touches to the festive tree which has been brought in from outside in its pot for its second appearance.
The previous tree lasted many years in captivity before it was rewilded.

Most of our decorations also go back years and it's always a pleasure to use them again and recall their provenances. Our coloured lights expired along the way and we seem to do without them now.
Likewise we rarely buy new wrapping paper but instead re-cycle that which has been used before, most of it bearing a palimpsest of sticky tape and labels from years gone by. I think this provides more pleasure than the virginal stuff.

I remember only once having a Christmas tree as a child when I was about 10, and it had real candles, little coloured ones stuck into clip-on holders attached to the boughs, almost inevitably singeing the needles when lit and creating a monumental fire hazard.
