We stopped at the same place for coffee during the long drive from Cairo to Rafah border crossing. One colleagues and I were delayed at the gate, while the Egyptian authorities struggled to find out whether we had coordination to cross or not. Thankfully, it was confirmed and we were allowed through.

It was so lovely to see how happy my colleagues were to return home, and how their children welcomed them excitedly at each front door. I was happy too, to reach my apartment, have a home-cooked dinner, and settle back into life in Gaza.

Even better, we discovered at the very last minute that the office was closed the next day for May Day. Sweet joy, a day in bed!
