Christmas dinner

A most enjoyable day. Plenty of time to open gifts, prepare Christmas lunch and enjoy it without rushing and keeping an eye on the clock.

We were reminiscing about our memories of Christmases past when we were children. Bringing back the feelings of that special day, the warmth, the excitement, the sense of being cocooned in the family. Hard to express but so real and vital.

Part of Susan’s memories were of sitting with her mum and dad having toast, marmalade and tea or coffee for breakfast with her dad in charge of the Christmas dinner.

Lying in bed on Christmas Eve, hearing the sounds of mum and dad moving around downstairs until we must have eventually fallen asleep only to wake to feel the weight of a sack on the bed. Magic times, replicated I’m sure with our own children when we were young parents.

Dad and I used to walk to the local pub for a Christmas morning drink. Of course, I realise now that we left mum to do all the work. I dare say much of the preparation was done beforehand.

We visited Doreen this afternoon taking a Christmas tea and a glass of sherry while watching various Snowman films. I had a call from Matt while we were with Doreen and had a few minutes talking to our eldest grandchild.

Later, after a brisk walk Chris video messaged from California with Landon and we talked with Matt and Chris and their mum. First time we’ve had a four way video chat with the family. Madison is with Carly, we hope to see them both tomorrow.

We hope you’ve all had the best day possible.
