Barley

As if reaching up towards the light this striking artwork entitled Barley by Sophie Marsham stands at the entrance to The Brewery complex. Made from brushed steel and copper sheet the sculpture has been deliberately made slightly top heavy so that, as it stretches and twists upwards, it also sways in the wind. The Brewery was built on the site of the former Whitbread brewery which dates back to 1760 when it was known as Gardeners Brewery. Brewing of beer ceased here in 1998.
