Another Hall …*

The Christmas pilgrimage continues as we check out of the hotel with comic inefficiency - two people, too much baggage for one journey to the car, one keycard, miles of corridors, one son waiting impatiently, a lift, stairs, three phones and a tendency to misunderstand one another - and move, via Ewan’s, to  stay a couple of days with his brother.

Effecting the transition, my French d-in-l drove me over to pick up our grandsons and come back to Newhaven for lunch. Piles of sandwiches and chunks of Christmas cake were followed by a game of Cards Against Humanity (Family Edition), which seemed to have been drawn from the senior end of the pack and caused some young teen sniggers, and an impromptu jazz session upstairs with Catriona on trombone and her dad on drums and a backing track …. When the Amazon delivery man rang the doorbell we thought it might be the neighbours.

And then into our car with presents, cases, boys and returning pie dishes and off on the next leg. Now I’m writing in advance again along with the dog and two cats, and the humans have disappeared.

My collage represents our day -  from the peaceful start in Ewan’s kitchen through the crazy card game to dinner at Neil’s with imperious cat and a last, late dog walk along the misty cycle path after the rain.
