Life's Little Moments

Bird Watching

From the first time he saw them, Jax has been fascinated with vultures.  Maybe it is their size or the fact that they loop down close to the earth at times or maybe it's the actual motion.  Whatever the case, he will frequently stop in the middle of a walk to gaze intently at a vulture lazily gliding overhead on the thermals.  Today, however, there were at least 60 vultures (a mixed flock of turkey and black), the largest congregation I've ever seen in the airspace over the house.  And Jax was mesmerized.  At one point, when 25 or so were directly over moving east, he took off running, all the while keeping them in sight.  Fortunately, we've been working on the "come" command a lot lately and he stopped short of the hedge separating our land from the next.  Hubs picked this shot out and I think he got the right one.  My beautiful pup with his goofy ears.  And taken with a proper camera for a change.

Hubs is still pretty low with Covid and I am nursing some sort of cold (hard to believe but I continue to test negative for Covid).  So, not much activity on the Lane today.  We all got a nap in this afternoon before we took Jax out in the yard to run off some energy (and watch the birds).  I'll make something easy for dinner and then we'll pile onto the sofa and watch TV before calling it a wrap.

I had a surprise FT with my parents today.  Turns out they had a bit of a wild day yesterday (Mom's birthday) when they lost power in the morning.  The power stayed out for 9 hours but they said it was very scattered throughout their area.  Fortunately, their condo stayed relatively warm and, armed with flashlights, they relaxed, worked puzzles and read.  That was a hell of a storm that hit the Portland area yesterday!

I think dark with sea salt today.  And hot tea with lemon and honey.
