1600: The East India Company granted its charter
Quote Of The Day
"The East India Company's domination of the Indian economy was based on its private army."
(Robert Trout)
A company with a private army! That's right. At its height, the East India Company had a private army of 260,000 men, which was twice the size of the British army at that time. Imagine that! Well, Frank Miller did, with his trademark subtlety, along with artist extraordinaire Dave Gibbons, in Give Me Liberty. I wonder if Miller was familiar with Pat Mills' Food Wars episodes from the Judge Dreddd epic The Cursed Earth?
Honestly, though, we shouldn't worry about military multinational companies; remember, they care.
