Floods and shortages

First person I meet in the co-op this morning is a friend who tells me she has had to cancel all her New Year plans because of floods.
 
We have torrential rain in our area with some roads said to be passable only with great difficulty.
 
There are food shortages too.  This morning our co-op had run out of bread and eggs.  The manager tells me he has no idea if and when he will get another delivery of eggs. Today he had one box and they sold within minutes.
 
 
I never expected to see so many empty shelves  (see extras) in our local co-op. The egg shortage is due to a combination of avian bird flu and the rising cost of production with retailers refusing to pay the increased prices.
