Queen Adelaide's saloon
We had a couple of hours before our train from York to Taunton, and so paid a quick visit to the Railway Museum - we needed much more time, and must go back again! This is one of the exhibits.
Queen Adelaide was Queen Victoria's aunt and one of the first of the royal family to use the railways, in the 1840s. This beautiful saloon was specially made for her, with extra space at one end for her to lie down. It was minute compared to more modern railway coaches: my husband, next to it in the picture, provides scale; he is about 6 foot tall!
