Log pile

We took Kanji for a walk at St John's Lye today. Although the rain had relented, the fields and tracks were sodden, so we kept to the footpaths and walked up to and over the railway track to the adjoining golf course. En route, we passed a yard where there was this and other piles of tree logs. As we walked the footpaths that criss-cross the course, we discovered loads of tree stumps. We asked a group of passing golfers why so many trees had been felled and they said it was part of Woking Golf Club's heathland regeneration project. I've since visited the Club's website and was impressed to see the action they are taking to restore much of  the course to its original state and encourage the return of greater biodiversity. Apparently the club is the oldest heathland golf course in the county and it was great to see them taking a lead on this. A positive start to the New Year.
