Happy New Year!

A quiet day, with much of the usual...ice, exercise and a much longer walk today...ten minutes! My good friend stopped by late this afternoon with a bottle of bubbly and we toasted the new year, which was great fun. I'm now very mellow and probably will succumb to a book and a cup of tea.

This lovely fern and Winter Splash Wintergreen, or Gaultheria procumbens 'Winter Splash'. The species is a US east coast native which I remember well growing in the woods where I grew up in eastern Massachusetts. The berries taste like wintergreen, hence the name. It's a beauty!
