Nelson's Column
The original Nelson's Column looks across the harbour at Portsmouth from alongside a small road north of the city. It was built in 1807 funded by donations of two days' pay from all who served at the battle of Trafalgar. Until today, I have driven past this monument but never actually stopped to take a closer look. At the very top is a bust of Nelson, and it stands 28.3 metres tall. It is so unlike the ornamental monument in London but the notice board tells me the Royal Navy have a commemorative service here, every year on Trafalgar Day. In extras is the view that the monument overlooks
