The Toy Soldier And The Stegosauri
I did stay up last night to see the New Year in but I woke up feeling very lethargic and a bit drained to be honest - I think I might have just ever so slightly overindulged in all the festive food and drink.
So actually I was quite glad that I had to stay in today to attend to my meat husbandry duties for my legendary (well, only in my own mind!) slow-cooked aromatic shoulder of pork which I cook every year for New Year's Day (and sometimes at Easter). It takes five and half hours but the aromas created by the use of all the ingredients, which include garlic, ginger, star anise, fennel seeds, cinnamon, cloves, soy sauce and dark brown sugar are fantastic. This year was my best effort yet and the meat was fabulously tender (in my, of course, very humble opinion!).
I deliberately didn't have any breakfast or lunch so that by the time it was ready in the late afternoon and I'd prepared the rest of the meal my head was much clearer and I was absolutely starving.
None of which has absolutely anything to do with my image for today - but what more hits the zeitgeist for 2023 than a toy soldier in glass bowl surrounded by defunct stegosaurus shaped fairly lights! :-) O.K you caught me - of course it's another emergency blip!
