Loch Barnluasgan & Tayvallich tour
We’re lucky we love the same things. I’d sorted a whole load of short walks for an old Little Dog and mentioned that one had the chance of seeing evidence of or even an actual beaver. It was first on both of our lists so that’s exactly where we headed.
Before very long we’d spotted teeth marks in one of the small trees around the edge of the loch. Further along, we think we found a lodge and around the other side - so many freshly chewed branches, it was a bit ridiculous. We’ll probably try to come back early morning or late afternoon and see if we get lucky with spotting one. Little Dog might hamper that though.
We then explored the area to Tayvallich and beyond, finding a few lovely places to sit and ocean stare, once over to Jura. On the way home a bird of prey caught my eye and we had great views of this male hen harrier for a few minutes.
Rich spotted a fantastic tiny coastal road loop near us so our final adventure was weaving through those lanes and spotting various winter birds before returning to our cabin.
My rule is to sea watch until the sun goes before doing anything else. Seal and eiders were a nice spot. Might do morse code to the Ronja Star if she’s back again tomorrow night. State of the art fish cleaning boat, apparently!
