Thrupenny bit

A morning of co-ordinating and advancing ... to converge on the car. Or perhaps withdrawing from ... work/parish/usual life. The sorting out has finished, for now, the unwinding is well on its way, the engagement with my "study" theme is beginning. As someone said, I'm on the starting blocks ... 

I travelled to Leeds this afternoon and called in to get a new battery for my car. That's good, but I forgot to bring the code to reset my radio so that's not so good. 

Mum got out some old coins she had and these are a couple of them - 1842 and 1880. It was the start of an evening of looking back in time, but not quite as far back as these! 

I titled this thrupenny bits but then noticed one was four pence so had to reduce the title to "bit" ... and resist the temptation to re photograph them in numerical order!  

HISTORY
The four pence coin was introduced in 1836 but was unpopular with cabdrivers as they now received four pence rather than previously receiving sixpence and being told to keep the change. It was called the "joey" and was last minted in 1856.
