A Day out to Bamburgh
This was Son#2's second last full day with us, so we took him & his partner, along with Son#3 & his fiancee, to Bamburgh - about 40 miles up the Northumberland coast. If I've ever been round the castle before I can't remember doing so and we had a really good day.
Bamburgh Castle has a long and complex history. It's still privately owned (and lived in) by the Armstrong family, having been renovated from a somewhat ruined state in the 1890s by the industrialist and philanthropist William Armstrong (he of armaments fame). The 14 state rooms are amazing to visit.
(The offspring suggested that I could tag this for Flower Friday as the castle had a major role in the War of the Roses!! - but I thought that was just a little too far-fetched.)
After a blustery walk on the beach, on the way home we stopped off at Barter Books (2nd hand bookshop) in Alnwick - see the extra. I know that certain blippers have been there before!
