forgotten in the wardrobe. Don't normally post pictures of the red clad man. There is a lot I like about the winter festival but it feels a bit over the top of late. Pressure to cook, perfect gifts, ect. When I grew up my mum was a district nurse and often had to work. This isn't a poor deprived me story but a recognition of the effort involved in any celebration and the unequal distribution of work to make it special for others. There is an expectation that women should do this, often as well as their stressful jobs. Just because things have always been done one way isn't a excuse to continue doing the same thing. I read this article recently and it resonated with me.

I wouldn't be as extreme as this but the expectations of who does what and how we celebrate is interesting to think about.
