Getting the sparkle back

Aberlady Bay

Looking west at the end of a lovely expedition walking from Aberlady to Gullane Point and on to the town of Gullane and getting the bus back - after a coffee in The Bonnie Badger. This was our third choice of cafe after finding the Goose on the Green shut for the first half of January and Cherish taken over by a private function. Still, The Bonnie Badger was fine and they seemed quite happy to serve us notwithstanding our boots and packs.

The day started out pretty windy which the route took into account and it was pretty chilly - too chilly to stop for very long anywhere. We saw a little egret at the start of the walk, several teal, some shelduck, one or two redshank, lots of oystercatchers, mallards and various gulls as well as a bird we couldn't identify, possibly a stonechat. We heard a curlew - I hadn't heard one for a long time, so it was special. We saw a dead goose - probably from bird flu, but at least there was only one. I managed to fall again just as we reached the beach but at least I had a soft landing. I collected a few shells to use in silver clay but didn't spend too long because of the cold. We both felt set up from the expedition.
