Had he not died in 2016, today would have been David Bowie's 76th birthday. To mark his birthday a local club holds an annual David Bowie jam session and this afternoon I went along. Huge talent! The host band goes by the name of Weird and Gilly, though they are obviously not the original bass and percussion players from Spiders from Mars because the bass player is a woman named Charlie.
They were followed on stage by The Fantastic Four, where only the percussionist was male and all three guitars (lead, rhythm and bass) were female musicians. Later there were some less talented folk who simply wanted to be seen on stage dressed in skirt and bra, but mostly the talent was immense and it will definitely become a favourite fixture in my calendar.
