My 500th .... HERODOTUS PUDDING 1846

Today is my 500th Blip! And the strange item for today's Blip is a pudding basin commemorating the quincentenary of BNC- Brasenose College, Oxford University, which produced graduates such as David Cameron, Michael Palin and...........my hubby.

On the back of the basin is the recipe for the pudding made at BNC in 1846, so if you fancy giving it a try here is that recipe:

HERODOTUS PUDDING 1846

250g/2 cups suet

250g/2 cups raisins

125g/2 cups fine breadcrumbs

125g/1 cup sugar

4 figs, chopped

Grated rind of one lemon

2 teaspoons ground allspice

4 tablespoons of brandy

2 eggs

Method:

Mix the ingredients together, put them in

the pudding basin, tie a greaseproof paper

circle over the top of the basin and steam

for five hours.
