Empire of Light

A trip to the cinema this afternoon to see the Sam Mendes film ‘Empire of Light ‘ . It’s received mixed reviews but we really liked it as a poignant homage to the 1980s world with its fading cinema . Tears were shed . It wasn’t an easy watch as it explored mental illness and racism. I liked it’s inclusion of two poems - one by W.H. Auden and one by Philip Larkin .
