Birthday girl and her mum

There’s something rather ironic about it. A mere three days after burying her grandmother’s ashes, today we celebrated Carol’s 30th birthday at a terrific lunch in her mother’s house. Carol definitely takes after Susan, with her infectious bubbly personality, so it really was a terrific occasion.Ten of us were treated to gorgeous food, great company, and non-stop chat.

Afterwards, I had time for a quick nap before heading over to Carl’s place to welcome in the new year. 2023, no less. Anything beginning with 20 still looks strange to me, even if we’re almost a quarter of the way into the 21st Century. We had a quiet celebration. We phoned a few friends, had a meal, watched TV and somehow managed to miss the actual midnight moment (by a minute or two, but still our glass-raising was late).
