Causeys

Paisley Cross like most town streets was paved with granite cobbles (causeys) until the 1960s after the tramlines were lifted. The Coronation tram has just climbed Causeyside Street crossing the junction into Gilmour Street. The cobbles shook my old Commer mercilessly and once sent my cousin's Vespa skidding on its side down the street. Some cobbled streets were just tarred over but many causeys found their way into garden rockeries like mine.
