One Street

After giving the One Street project a little more thought I have decided that my "one street" will be the Bridgewater canal which passes by the bottom of the garden.

Commissioned by Francis Egerton, 3rd Duke of Bridgewater, to transport coal from his mines in Worsley to Manchester. It opened in 1761 and was further extended from Manchester to Runcorn, and then from Worsley to Leigh.

I will add more information as we go along.

This is the view from the canal towpath looking towards Dunham Massey Hall. The hall was built in 1616 by Sir George Booth. In the next field, just behind where I was standing, there is an obelisk which was erected by George Booth, 2nd Earl of Warrington, in memory of his mother.

Some other shots from the Bridgewater this morning.
