Hardy Tree
On the 95th anniversary of the death of Thomas Hardy (who would have thought such a Victorian gentleman lived so long into the 20th century), I went to pay my repects to the recently deceased Hardy Tree in St Pancras Old Churchyard. It has been ailing for a while (it was an 160 year old Ash which aren't long lived trees) and blew down in a storm before Christmas. Its story is on the plaque in the first extra and you can glimpse the church behind the wreckage in the second extra. I wasn't the only person there, there was a stream of people stopping and bowing their heads, and a few roses strewn.
