Walled garden wall
This is the south facing wall from the outside of the walled garden. I wish I had the type of camera that could show the beauty of these walls, and the magnificence of the space they enclose. It's funny, you just put amazing walls up and the space becomes special. The wall is 16 feet high, about 400 feet long, and the walled garden is two and a half acres. It's 200 years old, and good for another 200 years, Richard says. (Men know about these kinds of things.) It's kept up by buttresses on it's four corners which are things of beauty in themselves.
There's a story that when it was a working garden, one of the gardeners rode his bike all the way around the top of the wall. I've walked around the top along the coping stones, and you could cycle - just.
