From the bridge

I've probably shared this view before, as I walk this way quite often and like the blue weatherboard house with the church behind it, and just now the bare trees are reflected in the Nailbourne, which only flows when the water table is quite high. It's probably the best of Wednesday's poor photos, taken around 3:30 when the gloomy day was fading towards an even gloomier twilight, and was prompted by the Wide Wednesday bridge theme, though I've probably missed the judging. No matter, this wasn't going to win any prizes. The bridge is not visible, because I'm standing on it. I tried various angles to include it in a photo, but nothing really worked; and it's not a "proper" bridge, just a short length of large diameter concrete pipe topped with earth, grass and the currently ubiquitous mud. I can't think of a picturesque or interesting bridge anywhere within comfortable walking distance.

I was late going out because J and I had quite a long morning at the wheelchair clinic, where a mould was made from which the new moulded seat she now needs will be created. It's an exacting task, trying to position her as optimally as possible in a kind of bean bag from which the air is then sucked, so that it holds the shape which has been formed. We go through this process every few years; although J is not easy to position, with a lot of involuntary movement and frequent changes in muscle tone, she tried hard to be calm and communicate well, and the two therapists, one of whom has known her for nearly a decade now, were patient and experienced and continued to make adjustments until we were all happy. Now we have about ten weeks to wait for the new seat; there's always a bit of anxiety about this, as it's so important to get it right, but we were happy that the moulding went well. J's main concern was that the cover fabric is no longer available in pink: her filmmaking Facebook page and the website she is working on are called Pink Wheelchair Films and she uses a pink wheelchair woman logo taken from one of her animations, so the new blue covers will be a challenge to the identity she has developed. She's hoping I may be able to improvise a solution, but the complexity of the shape and the importance of a perfectly smooth fit would make it very challenging.
