24 spots...maybe
This tiny (~2 - 3mm) beauty is Subcoccinella 24-punctata the 24 spot ladybird!
As with most native British species it is tiny, but really beautiful and hairy!
These little beauties are quite plentiful and as with the sloe bug yesterday live at the edge of fields etc in the long grasses and hedgerows.
Adults can be seen from May onwards, but being so tiny are quite difficult to find.
I find it helpful to get down on my hands and knees and just look around in the plants and rough grasses at the edges of fields etc.....you will be surprised what you can find!
