Kickstart
I woke up at a reasonable hour and treated myself to a slow start to the day before showering up and washing the remnants of last night’s Panto glitter out of some really weird places.
I had to shake the Dame off in good time as I was very much back in “Dad mode” to go and watch m’boy play a football match for the first time in a while. They were well beaten again, but at least managed to keep it to single figures and they almost scored in a promising yet unrewarding first half.
From a selfish point of view I was pleased to be there enjoying the fine weather as I got to hug both my children and have a catch-up with my most recent ex-father-in-law who surprised me with his breadth of knowledge-based encouragement from the sidelines. Very encouraging to hear a cricket man telling them to “push up”!
Post football we went our separate ways. Me to do the food shop and m’boy grumbling about the referee all the way back to his mother courtesy of his Grandpa.
LadyV had suggested a late roast dinner on Sunday afternoon and for the second time in the last few days, I was glad I said yes as we sat there with a glass of Malbec and demolishing two massive plates of roast beef and all the usual gubbins. I repeatedly apologised for continuing to talk about my adventures in pantomime, but she was very gracious and pretended that she wanted to hear them.
She told me about the production of the Lion King she went to see in Manchester where children formed the limbs of animals. I told her that we had a brick called Simon on a roller skate.
I dropped her off and drove home with a belly full of good food and a warm, happy heart.
As I sit here with a cup of decaff tea warming in my newly acquired mug from The Bryce (where we perform) my thoughts turned to around this time last year, when my best friend’s wedding lifted me out of a January blues funk. This year the Panto has stepped in to provide the kickstart and as much as it has needed me the last couple of days, I think I needed it more.
Work is going to seem even more tedious tomorrow!
P.S. Thank you for all the supportive messages over the last couple of days, they have been very well received!!
P.P.S. Thanks to ayearinthelife for the extra shot. I wanted to give it a bit of a tweak into black and white. The original is here.
