I had some old work mates come for lunch today and decided to get out these plates that were Mum’s. She used them on special occasions. I think things should be used and not kept in cupboards so got them out and washed them up.
It was a postponed gathering from pre Covid. In fact our last meeting was cancelled as the cafe had to close that day as it was the first day of lockdown. Finding a day was hard. One had to babysit, another called to say they had a family bereavement over night, another’s husband had a fall and needed to go to ED, another had unexpected visitors but she came anyway. The last was coming between client appointments but something happened and she was held up. That left 3 or 4 of us and then the one whose hubby had the fall was discharged and she arrived. So it was a bit muddly but fun. We ate too much so just had soup for tea. Our conversations were typical of people of our generation. Holidays, caravans, kids, grandchildren, one has a great grandchild, doctors and home care ( after operations). They were a mix of midwives, child health nurses and generalist community nurses. I did a bit of all those jobs over the years.
We will try for another gathering next month.
I’m just watching the news. They have had 500mm of rain up north, that is seriously heavy rain. There is flooding in WA, QLD, NSW, Vic and SA. The floods in SA is from the water from thousands of kilometres away which fell a few months ago. It takes months to travel downstream. In the north of WA the floods can be seen from space. We are hot and dry here but today it was perfect sitting outside for lunch.
