back in the day - after an afternoon meal - women used to - retire to their - sitting rooms while - the men folk would - gather in a library - the women would commonly - pull out their stitching projects - to work on while - they chatted about the - goings on in the neighborhood - and the men would typically use their - time to smoke cigars - and take in a drink - of whiskey or bourbon

often women used this - time to catch up - on projects for babies - or grandkids or linens - but sometimes there - were special items they - indulged in like - this compact as a - gift for a loved one - i can’t quite fathom - working the embroidery - on something so very small - in person it’s about an - inch and a half in size - so very small to consider

i happened to find - it in a local - antique shop and although - i don’t collect things - like this i found it - too intriguing to pass up - the stories it must hold - gave me pause - in my estimation - it most likely dates - to the late 1800’s - a fun piece which - puts a smile on my face - and always leads to…
