These are the tattiest wings I have seen on a monarch butterfly. Not only were chunks missing


Chunks were missing and holes within the delicate tissue were very obvious - along with many tears. Surely this female is at the end of her cycle, but she was still busy laying eggs on the swan plants in the garden!
