A city view, and badgers
I spent quite a bit of time yesterday interrogating and experimenting with the OS app and worked out how to plot a route and save it as a gpx file. Today I had planned to go back to the Seven Loch Trail and have another go without the distraction of chatter. However the badger survey had been praying on my mind so instead I decided to do an initial recce of my square kilometre in north Glasgow. At least 80% of it is housing and my exploration of the area around Milton Park yielded nothing. I did have some interesting conversations with dog walkers several of whom have been watching Winterwatch where I gather Edinburgh city badgers have featured. One chap was reasonably optimistic about the area around Stobhill Hospital which is just inside my square. I will return on another occasion. There is also a railway line that cross cuts the square, substantial evidence of urban badgers using embankments so that is another challenge. Hunger, a diminishing phone battery and the cold meant I was back in the city centre just after one.
The blip is the view down Virginia Street from Argyll Street, more interesting than Milton recreation ground. Afterwards I tried Marks and Spencer’s latest coffee offering Magic Coffee, and it was jolly good, if a tad small.
And now another Naturetrek zoom Roadshow, Asia’s wildlife.
